Excellent first steps

for Rinus van Kalmthout with new USF2000 car and Carlin Benik team at Indianapolis

Rinus VeeKay, the racing name that Rinus van Kalmthout has adopted in the United States, has completed his first miles in the new USF2000 car. On the Indianapolis Grand Prix circuit the KNAF Talent First driver took part in a series of test sessions during the Chris Griffis Memorial.

The Chris Griffis Memorial was organized for the sixth time this year, and honours the memory of team manager Chris Griffis, who died unexpectedly in September 2011, at the age of 46. With the exception of the Indycars themselves, all series on the Mazda Road to Indy take part in this test – from Indy Lights to Pro Mazda and USF2000. This year also sees the debut of the new Tatuus car that will be used in USF2000 in 2017.

25 drivers from eight separate countries took part in this first USF2000 test, and used the Saturday to shake down the cars. On the second day the Carlin Benik team worked on set-up and made good initial progress on the USF2000 car.

Carlin Benik will use the acquired data for its further development of the USF2000 chassis. That will take place at Sebring and Palm Beach in the next few weeks.

This season, Rinus van Kalmthout is supported by Jumbo Supermarkten, Ford dealer Ardea Auto, Stern, Total, Goedkoopdrank.nl and Lease Performance.
