Rinus Veekay Shows Champions Pedigree at Chris Griffis Test

After capturing the Pro Mazda Presented By Cooper Tires Championship just over three weeks ago, Rinus VeeKay had his first outing in the Soul Red Mazda Indy Lights machine at the eighth annual Chris Griffis Open Test at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The KNAF Talent First driver finished inside the top four in every session.

The Pro Mazda Champion was delighted with his graduation to the Indy Lights car and was equally enthused by having the honor of representing the soul red colors of Mazda for the first time.

“It feels really good to drive the Soul Red Mazda,” commented VeeKay, who just turned 18 on September 11. “It gives me a lot of confidence. It's been a good weekend; we've learned a lot and have been progressing as we were able to find a lot in the car set up. It was good to get experience with the car, and now we have the off-season to work on a few areas ahead of next season.”

VeeKay’s eyes are now firmly set on a strong winter testing program to be fully ready for the 2019 Indy Lights season.

“I’m really looking forward to next year and racing in Indy Lights. Finally being able to use push-to-pass and just the thought of racing in Indy Lights overall, it's going to be really cool. The event I am most looking forward to is the Freedom 100 and being able to race at the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway.”
