Veekay pays tribute to Arie Luijendyk with special Indy 500 helmet design
Rinus Veekay will race the Indy 500 with a special helmet design, honoring his mentor Arie Luijendyk. The Ed Carpenter Racing driver will participate wearing a helmet, which features Luyendyk's 1990 helmet design on one side and his own design on the other.
“My Indy 500 helmet is finally ready, I always wanted a special design for this special race,” said Veekay in a video he distributed via social media. “This year marks the 30th anniversary of Arie Luijendyk's first Indy 500 victory and it is my first Indy 500. So I opted for a split design, with Arie’s 1990 helmet on one side and on the other my own 2020 design. I think it's a nice tribute to Arie in this special race and I can't wait to go fast at Indy next week! ”
